Ahh!! Coffee. Most people can’t start the day without it. It is a worldwide commodity and its characteristics are just as varied and complex as the places it’s produced from. An excellent “caffé” can be described in the same manner as an excellent wine, with hints of fruits and notes of acidity.

The D’Aquino Decaffeinated Espresso Blend has an evolving and harmonic taste, with a consisting cream which you can enjoy without the effects of caffeine. The decaffeination method maintains the organoleptic properties and quality of the original bean unaltered. The harmonic taste of the original D’Aquino Espresso is unchanged by the decaffeination of this Decaf tin. Same great taste without the effects of caffeine!

The decaffeination process uses an organic solvent, Dichloromethane (or better known as DCM) to remove caffeine from within the coffee beans. The beans are steamed and rinsed with the DCM solvent, which removes the wax found on the outer layer to ease the removal of the caffeine. Once the process is complete the beans are then rinsed off and all the DCM solvent is removed leaving the beans packed full of flavor and aromas, without the effects of caffeine.

Dichloromethane use is governed in the United States under the following regulations:

F.D.A. Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Chapter 1, Sub Ch. B, Part 173, Sec. 173.255 - "Methylene chloride may be present: ...in coffee as a residue from its use as a solvent... at a level not to exceed 10 parts per million (0.001 percent) in decaffeinated roasted coffee and in decaffeinated soluble coffee extract (instant coffee)".

As with their wine, Italians take great pride in the creation of a great “caffé”. Our Espresso is composed of coffee beans of the best varieties of Arabica and Robusta coming from Brazil, Central America and Ethiopia. The raw coffee beans get decaffeinated before blending and roasting. All come together to create a rich, bold, full-flavored coffee, distinctive in taste and rich aroma. Containing no caffeine, it is a great way to start the day. Each tin has a 24-month shelf life but is best enjoyed by the “best used by date” found on the bottom of the tin, so stock up!
